Be part of history - Round Rock’s first local “Cash Mob”

You know what a “Flash Mob” is? Well, this is a “Cash Mob.” Join the mob of people at Kaleidoscope Toys and help support locally owned businesses. Be here this Sunday, April 29, 2012 at 2pm. Everyone will enter together at 2:00pm sharp and basically “mob” the place. Be prepared to spend $20 (or more if you like).

If you don’t have any children to buy for, Kaleidoscope toys is collecting donations for the Christ Child Society. They will be handing out Thank You Bags to participants filled with goodies from other locally owned businesses. Have fun, get to know other locally minded people in the group and thanks for shopping local.

This Cash Mob is sponsored by the Shop Local Committee of the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce.

Furry friends and fun-filled day for family this Sunday

We are very excited about this Sunday, April 22, as we will be partnering up with the Humane Society of Williamson County for a fun-filled family event.

We will have FREE goodie bags, a toy trade-in (trade in a new dog toy or cat toy for a Kaleidoscope toy in our basket of fantastically fun toys), door prizes, plus you can paint a bobble head pet, visit with Dr. David Hocher and Dr. Aimee Prause from the Round Rock Animal Hospital on pet care, and best of all, you can pet, hug, play and love on the cute, loveable dogs who will be joining us.

To cap it all off, 10% of all sales that day will be donated the Humane Society.

We are looking forward to playing with all these wonderful animals and hope you will come and join in on the fun with us this Sunday from 12pm to 4pm.

Introducing the Kaleidoscope Toys Friends Club

Hello friends of Kaleidoscope Toys!

We're rolling out an exciting new program for you & your family. Introducing...the Kaleidoscope Toys Friends Club

Hmmm. "Why the Friends Club?" some of you may ask. Why not just a rewards program or members club? What’s so different and special about the "Friends Club"? That’s a great question and one that I would expect from my savvy customers. The main reason is we don’t think of Kaleidoscope Toys customers as “just customers.” We really feel a much closer connection with each one of you. We really think of you as friends.

The next question you may be asking is "how did this all come about?"

A few weeks ago I went through a process called Branding. Branding a business is simply defining who you are. After 23 years you would think I knew the answer to that question. I thought I did, too. I didn’t.

The first thing I had to do was list all of my personality traits (which are all wonderful don’t you know), defining who I am as a person, a parent, a community member, and a business owner. I then listed my core values, or those things that I believe are important in life. Funny how the two lists really matched up quite nicely.

During the second step of the process I addressed the toy store. I had to answer, “What do we do for our customers?” The first couple of items on the list were easy - free gift wrap, free assembly, always have a welcoming attitude, that kind of thing. But lots of stores have that. So I had to go deeper (and order a second cup of coffee).

I started contemplating how we interact with you, our customer. I remembered how Claudia, who is from Germany, loves it when a fellow German comes in the store and they start a conversation in their native tongue. I remembered Jared and Randy and how they love to play and cut up with customers, which includes bouncing balls, shooting arrows, playing with the Thinking Putty - maybe that’s just a guy thing. And then there's Brittney, my youngest sales team member, who I’ve noticed likes to share with you the often overlooked toys. As for myself, well, the store is important to me, as is this community. I’ve lived in Round Rock for over 25 years now. It’s my home. It’s where my husband and I raised our 3 children. We're invested in this store and this community.

After much thought, I determined as a store we are dedicated to: service, play value, education, community/family and fun experience. That is what we are. That is what we try to provide you each and every time you step inside. You are more than “just a customer.” You are a friend.

Thus the Friends Club with lots of great benefits for you. We hope you sign up soon and feel the friendship we offer each and every one of you inside the store, as well as see it in tangible items that are part of the Club.

Not the same old Easter basket

It's a family tradition in many homes across the nation. After Christmas, Easter morning is the next best thing as it is filled with excitement when the kids wake up and discover the Easter Bunny has left a basket chock-full of gifts. Stuffed animals, jelly beans, Peeps, chocolate bunnies, card games, and other assorted games/small toys are just a few of the more common things you might find in a basket sampling across the nation. Not much has changed through the years. From when you were a kid to now, the Easter Bunny hasn't strayed much from the "the list."

It doesn't have to be that way. In fact, in recent years, the Easter Bunny has started seeking out other creative gift ideas. As your neighborhood toy store, we're happy to offer up a couple of new ideas we think might add some variety to the Easter Bunny's routine, and more importantly, put a smile on your child's face.

Magic Milk Flavoring Straws are a great option to include in this year's basket. These little packages contain 6 straws of different flavors including chocolate, strawberry, cookies and cream and vanilla milkshake. Not only are they delicious, they're also nutritious and are gluten-free and have no artificial colors, no preservatives, and no artificial flavors.

Another increasingly popular option is Thinking Putty. Think of Silly Putty, but much better. This popular putty allows you to do all the fun things you did with Silly Putty as a kid including stretching, kneading, and bouncing, but you can also find certain types that have certain properties such as magnetism, and glow-in-the-dark. And the best thing about it all, it never dries out. This will definitely make for hours of fun for the kiddos.

Whatever items the Easter Bunny chooses to deposit in your child's basket this year, we know your kids will be grateful and be happy he visited once again.

From our family to yours, Happy Easter!
